Today, I visited the second destination in the Cornish Copper Triangle, at Burra,\u00a0 originally Burra, Burra, meaning ‘Big, Big’, known as the ‘Monster Mine’ for its productivity. It closely resembles the Great Opencast at Parys Mountain, Anglesey, where I have previously done a lot of work, with a big hole filled with bright blue water. There are also several well-preserved Cornish engine houses, and caves dug into the river bank where early Cornish miners lived in pretty atrocious conditions. I was given a whirlwind tour of all the sites by Brodie, a young tour guide at the Burra Visitor Centre.
