‘No Particular Place to Go?’, 35 years of sculpture at Castlefield Gallery, Manchester. 6 September – 27 October 2019.

Randall was invited by curators Clare O’Dowd and John Plowman to exhibit 2 works in this major sculpture survey exhibition. Other sculptors exhibiting included some of the most important sculptors of the late 20th and early 21st century such as Henry Moore, Sir Anthony Caro, Lee Grandjean and Michael Lyons.
Randall exhibited 2 works, ‘End Of The Line’ (1988) and ‘In the upside-down land’ (2018). Jill Randall’s work is often a response to different ideas of place, particularly the post-industrial or neglected areas of the British landscape. Randall has undertaken a series of artist residencies in industrial settings, often generating new perspectives on industrial heritage. ’End Of The Line’ was one of a body of works shown at Castlefield Gallery in 1990 which responded to the histories and material elements of coastal areas. ’In the upside-down land’ (2018) is an imagined architecture and refers to place beyond the gallery space, evoking post-mining landscapes in Victoria, Australia.
