Today I revisited the APG Show at Raven Row, and was able to contact Barbara Steveni, the founder and driving force of APG, with a view to a possible meeting and discussion. There’s a lot I would like to ask her about, both within the context of my own industry residencies and the legacy of APG for today’s artists, art students and society in general.

On my way there, I experienced a great “London moment”, when approaching Tower Bridge. The bus I was travelling on stopped to allow the bridge to be raised and let through an enormous modern cruise ship which dwarfed the little ancient bridge-it created great excitement!

In the afternoon, I visited Flat Time House in Peckham, the house of artist John Latham and Barbara Steveni, now a gallery, project space, and home of the John Latham Archive.

I met the Director of Flat Time House, Claire Staunton, to discuss my Research Project and also the possibility of using Flat Time House for University of Salford student projects, as a starting-point for research and ideas. I hope to get something going for next year as they are looking to strengthen links with Higher Education, to date mainly working with the London colleges.

In the evening, I went for Tate Modern Friday night late night, meeting an old friend artist and lecturer John Stephens,  who used to live and work in the  Manchester area, and is currently one of the participants/performers in Tino Seghals’ work “These associations”, the Unilever commission in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern.

I also visited “The Tanks” at Tate Modern, converted tanks from the old power station, recently opened as new spaces for showing video and film works-stunning and beautiful spaces with remnants of their industrial function which work very well.

I particularly enjoyed Suzanne Lacy’s video “The Crystal Quilt”.
